  • 1.5 ozvodka
  • 0.5 ozcoffee liqueur
  • 1 ozespresso
  • 2 ozvanilla ice cream
  • chocolate shavingsoptional

How to Make an Affogato Martini

Instructions

  1. Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream into a martini glass.
  2. In a shaker, combine the espresso, vodka, and coffee liqueur with ice.
  3. Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
  4. Strain the mixture over the scoop of ice cream in the martini glass.

Garnish

Sprinkle chocolate shavings or a few coffee beans on top.

The glass

Serve this one in a martini glass. A martini glass is a stemmed glass with an inverted cone bowl, mainly used to serve straight-up cocktails. The term martini glass is often used interchangeably with cocktail glass, despite their differing slightly.

Did you know

The affogato's origin story is suspect. According to Porte, we may owe credit to the 17th-century Franciscan friar Angelico (the same cleric who brought us the hazelnut-based Frangelico liqueur), but more likely, the affogato appeared in Italy sometime in the 1950s when the ice cream industry modernized.
