Did you know
A smash is classified as some kind of fruit, herb (often mint or basil) and spirit mixed together with a little sweetener and over ice. Smash cocktails are popular in the summer, as they are generally well chilled and often topped with a little sparkling water to lighten them up. One of the earliest examples of a smash appears in the form of a julep recipe in Jerry Thomas’ 1862 How to Mix Drinks, or, The Bon Vivant’s Companion.
