How to Make a Black Velvet

Instructions

  1. Slowly pour the beer by tilling the glass a bit.
  2. Gently top up with a brut champagne.

Garnish

Decorate only if you are drinking to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, in which case consider a shamrock or mint leaf.

The glass

Serve this one in a flute glass. A flute is a tall and elegant glass designed for serving champagne cocktails. The stem allows the drinker to hold the glass without affecting the temperature of the drink.

It is said to have originated at London's Brook's Club in 1861, immediately after the death of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. It was considered an appropriate sign of morning to dress the champagne with black stout.
